What is CaHa (Radiesse®) and How Does It Stimulate Collagen?

What is Radiesse® / Radiesse® Plus (瑞得喜 / 微晶瓷)?

Radiesse® and Radiesse® Plus are injectable collagen biostimulators made from calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) that provide immediate volume while also supporting longer‑term collagen production.

At Alluna Medical in Hong Kong, Radiesse is used to enhance facial contour, improve the appearance of lines and folds, and support overall skin structure in a controlled, natural‑looking way.

Radiesse and Radiesse Plus are registered medical devices in Hong Kong and are manufactured by Merz Aesthetics.

How Radiesse® Works

Radiesse contains tiny CaHA microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. After injection, the gel provides immediate volume and support, while the CaHA particles act as a scaffold that can stimulate the body’s own collagen production over time.

As the gel gradually resorbs and collagen is laid down, many patients notice a transition from “filler” effect to more intrinsic support in the treated areas. Outcomes vary between individuals and depend on indication, technique, and overall skin condition.

In selected patients, Radiesse treatments may lead to:

  • Immediate improvement in volume and contour

  • Softening in the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles and folds

  • Enhanced support and definition in areas such as the cheeks, chin, jawline or hands (where appropriate)

  • Gradual improvement in skin quality and firmness over time

Radiesse® vs Traditional Fillers

While Radiesse® shares some similarities with traditional hyaluronic acid fillers, it behaves differently in several important ways.

  • Immediate volume: Radiesse provides visible improvement right after treatment due to its gel matrix.

  • Biostimulation: The CaHA microspheres can stimulate collagen in the months following treatment, potentially extending the duration of structural support.

  • Texture and support: In properly selected areas, Radiesse can offer a firm, scaffold‑like support that some patients feel gives more definition and contour.

Radiesse is not suitable for all areas of the face, and it is not used in the lips. Treatment planning should always be individualized and may include a combination of different injectable products.

Radiesse for Skin Quality and Structural Support

Radiesse® and Radiesse Plus are increasingly used not only for volumising, but also for improving the overall quality and firmness of the skin in selected areas.

In appropriate patients and indications, this may contribute to:

  • A more defined and supported facial contour

  • Smoother, more even‑looking skin in the treated region

  • A firmer, more lifted appearance due to improved structural support rather than “puffiness”

Radiesse is not a replacement for surgical lifting procedures. Outcomes depend on anatomy, injection technique, and aftercare, and individual results will vary.

Why Patients Choose Radiesse at Alluna Medical

Patients who choose Radiesse at Alluna Medical often value:

  • Immediate visual improvement with a single session in many cases

  • Longer‑term collagen support beyond the initial filler effect

  • A structured, defined appearance rather than generalized volume

  • A doctor‑led, conservative approach focused on natural, understated results

Treatment recommendations at Alluna are made after a thorough consultation and may include Radiesse alone or in combination with other modalities, depending on your goals and clinical findings.

The Treatment Journey

Consultation

Your journey begins with a detailed consultation with our doctor to assess facial anatomy, skin quality, and aesthetic goals. We will discuss potential benefits, limitations, costs, and alternative options so you can make an informed decision.

A personalized treatment plan will be created, including whether Radiesse, Radiesse Plus, or other injectables are appropriate for you.

Treatment

During the procedure, Radiesse is injected into carefully selected areas using advanced techniques tailored to your facial structure. Local anaesthetic or numbing measures may be used to enhance comfort.

The session length and number of injection points depend on the areas being treated and the amount of product required.

Aftercare and Downtime

Following Radiesse injections, it is common to experience:

  • Mild to moderate swelling

  • Redness or tenderness at injection sites

  • Occasionally, minor bruising

These effects usually improve over several days, although recovery experiences vary from person to person.

You will receive aftercare recommendations, which may include temporary adjustments to skincare, exercise, and other activities to support healing and optimise your outcome.

How Many Syringes or Sessions Will I Need?

The amount of Radiesse required depends on:

  • The areas being treated

  • The degree of volume loss or structural change

  • Your aesthetic goals and facial proportions

Some patients may achieve their goals with a single session, while others may benefit from staged treatments over time. A detailed estimate will be provided during your consultation.

When Will I See Results, and How Long Do They Last?

You can typically see an immediate improvement in volume and contour right after treatment due to the gel carrier.

Over the following weeks to months, collagen stimulation may contribute to a more refined, longer‑lasting result as the product integrates with your tissues. Many patients enjoy results for 12–18 months or longer, depending on the area treated, lifestyle factors, and how quickly their body metabolises the product.

These timeframes are general and cannot be guaranteed; maintenance treatments are often recommended to sustain results.

Is Radiesse® Safe?

Radiesse and Radiesse Plus have been used worldwide for many years and have an established safety profile when administered by trained medical professionals. As with all injectable treatments, there are potential risks and side effects, including but not limited to swelling, bruising, nodules, asymmetry, infection, or vascular complications.

Your doctor will review relevant risks, contraindications, and precautions in detail before any treatment. Radiesse is not suitable for everyone, and a thorough medical history is essential.

Can Radiesse Replace Other Fillers?

Radiesse does not replace all other fillers. Hyaluronic acid fillers, other biostimulators, and Radiesse each have different strengths and ideal indications.

  • Radiesse is often chosen where structural support and contour are priorities.

  • Hyaluronic acid fillers may be preferred for areas requiring softer, more flexible volume or reversibility.

  • Some patients benefit from a combination approach within an overall treatment plan.

Your doctor will advise which products and techniques are most appropriate for your needs rather than relying on a single product for every concern.

About Your Treatment at Alluna Medical

At Alluna Medical, all injectable treatments are performed by our doctor, with a focus on precision, safety, and natural‑looking results. We limit the number of appointments per day so that your consultation and treatment can be carried out in a calm, unhurried environment.

Is Radiesse® Right for You?

Radiesse may be an option if you are noticing changes in facial contour, definition, or skin quality and prefer a non‑surgical, injectable approach. The most suitable treatment, however, can only be determined after a comprehensive, in‑person assessment.

If you would like to explore whether Radiesse or Radiesse Plus is appropriate for you, you are welcome to arrange a private consultation at Alluna Medical in Hong Kong.
